Break It Down

When I was first decided to organize my home, I was completely overwhelmed by the number of “projects” that I would need to complete in order to be organized. I was looking at the big picture of my home instead of looking at the smaller spaces. To help yourself feel less overwhelmed by the task of organizing your home, try looking at your home in smaller chunks. Try tackling just the junk drawer or a single cabinet in the kitchen. Accomplishing multiple organizing projects (the junk drawer AND the cabinet) as opposed to just one project (the whole house) you will feel much more accomplished and less overwhelmed.

Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day

I had this idea in my head that organizing my entire home was going to happen all in one day and that my organizing system would be perfect in every way. I soon realized that this was not always going to be the case. Realize that you don’t have to organize every piece of your home all at once and that your organizing system may require a few tweaks along the way.

Home Organization Challenge - Pantry Organization

So I am one of those people who look at what everyone else has done to organize their home and then I pick and choose little details of their systems for my own. My niece and great nephew just moved in with me and our little pantry is now BUSTING at the seams! Our pantry is less than 2 feet wide, but it is deep which creates a problem for me. I get so frustrated having to move everything out of the way to reach the boxes/cans in the back. We can’t see what canned goods we do have so we end up with multiples of everything we already have. Somehow we have accumulated 3 GIANT jars of peanut butter. Don’t get me wrong, I love peanut butter just as much as I do chocolate, but I don’t think we can go through this much peanut buttery goodness any time soon! So I have culled through numerous Pinterest pins and blog posts and have come up with my most favorite solutions:

(For those of you who don’t know, I am a photographer and “cull” is a word that photogs use to describe the process of going through photos and picking out the best ones to edit and/or keep.)

Home Organization Challenge - Command Center

If you are like me, you love the idea of a family command center, but the visual clutter of most command centers can be just as overwhelming as not being organized in the first place. For me, I need a command center that is simplistic yet contains everything I need to access on a daily basis as well as fit with the décor of my rental home. I love the use of a bookshelf to house the home management paperwork and most frequently used items. My other favorite is the white slotted divider that offers a place for each family member’s incoming papers. Everything you could need is all in the one spot, but it isn’t so visually heavy that you feel bogged down by it.
